Editorial Note

In the October 2003 edition of the Ukrainian Orthodox Word, a “letter to the editor” was published from Dr. George Krywolap, Secretary of the Metropolitan Council, UOC-USA, responding to a letter from Professor Samijlenko that was originally published in the June 20, 2003 edition of Svoboda. Regular readers of the Ukrainian Orthodox Word know that letters to the editor rarely appear in the Ukrainian Orthodox Word, but when they are published they predictably support, defend, or provide a positive spin to the positions and actions of the hierarchy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) in the US.

Previously we published a response to Dr. Krywolap from Mr. Simon Hahnibida under the headline “The Spin Continues..”. Following is a response to Dr. Krywolap, in Ukrainian, from Mr. Vitalij Grechniv, President of the Parish Board, St. Michael’s Parish Uniondale, Long Island, New York.

Висилаю Вам відповідь на “Лист який вимагає відповіді”.

Прошу вжити Ваш авторитет секретаря Ради Митрополії УПЦеркви в США, щоб моя відповідь була опублікована в “Українському Православному Слові”.

Поскільки Ваше “посланіє” пересичене образами “і мертвим, і живим, і ненародженним...”, то моя відповідь є більш тактовна, бо я говорю негативно тільки про живих, які можуть оборонятися.

“НА ПОЧАТКУ БУЛО СЛОВО....”

А ПОТІМ ПОЧАЛАСЯ НІСЕНІТНИЦЯ Д-РА КРИВОЛАПА

У своїй статті “Журба, якій немає кінця” опублікованій у тижневнику “Свобода”, професор І. Самійленко запитує”...чи теперішній провід УАПЦ в США дотримується заповіту Патріарха Мстислав? Чи пішов цей провід дорогою Патріарха до нашого Єрусалиму-Києва?” Він робе своє заключення, що цього не сталося!

В Українському Православному Слові появилася стаття “Лист який вимагає відповіді”. Автор якої д-р Юрій Криволап, не зважаючи на заголовок своєї статті, відповіді на запит професора Самійленка не дає! Замість того він використовує статтю щоб ще раз очорнити Патріарха Філарета і бл. п. Патріарха Володимира та образити професора Самійленка. До того ж ще й згадував “не злим, тихим словом” президента Кравчука.

Д-р Криволап, між усіми іншими гріхами Патріарха Філарета, закидає йому те що “...вл. Філарет ніколи в пресі не заявляє про свій вихід з юриздикції Московського Патріархії. То ж виглядає, що був покараний нею як її архирей”. Той факт, що Патріарх Філарет, після проголошення незалежності України не вважав потрібним повідомляти Москву та просити її дозволу на щобуть, я вважаю як доказ прояву патріотизму. Бути покараним та ще й проклятим Московською Патріархією, так само як було зроблене з гетьманом Іваном Мазепою, ставить Патріарха Філарета в історичні ряди борців проти фізичного і духовного поневолення України.

Д-р Криволап декілька разів харектерезує Патріарха Філарета “розвінчаним”, позбавленим сану”. Називає Патріарха “згасаючою зіркою РПЦеркви в Україні”. Так, російська зірка згасла, а натомість яскраво світить зірка незалежної Української Православної церкви.

Д-р Криволап пропонує вибрати “.....на “чільне місце” Київського Патріархату “незаплямленого” якщо хочемо щоб нас “прийняв і визнав православний світ”. Московська Патріархія заплямлює Патріарха Філарета, і ви їй прислужуєтесь в цьому, бо це ж для вас тепер братня Церква з якою ви є в євхаристійному поєднанні, ваш “парвославний світ”.

Професор Самійленко зробив помилку у своїй статті коли назвав теперішній провід у Бавнд Бруці проводом УАПЦ в США. УАПЦ в США, тобто незалежна, перестала існувати.

В продовж десятиліть ми відстоювали незалежність нашої Церкви доки не дочикалися незалежності нашої держави. Професор Самійленко, а з ним і багато нас, тужимо за тим моментом в історії нашої Незалежної Української Православної церкви в діаспорі коли наш владика Мстислав став першим Патріархом УПЦ України. Ми відчували що нарешті роки ізоляції від батьківщини закінчилися. Ми були горді тим, що ми гідно зберегли на чужині незалежною церкву, яку більшовики розтріляли в Україні і стали невід’ємною частиною нашої національної Православної Церкви яку очолив Патріарх Мстислав.

Професор Самійленко дуже тактовно говоре, що провідники церкви з Бавнд Бруку здійснили розрив УАПЦ в США з Київським Патріархатом. Ви прекрасно знаєте, д-ре Криволапе, що це не так, що в дісності це був не розрив а ЗРАДА! Якщо владикам з Бавнд Бруку не подобалось те що робилося в церковному житті в Україні, то вони моглиб затримати УПЦ в США далі незалежною, замість того щоб потайки передати її під зверхність чужинців.

Ви, пане докторе, цитуєте на ст. 72, Протоколу 15-го Собору УПЙ в США слова митрополита Константина: “Ми не будемо завжди під омофором Вселенського Патріарха, а лише до часу, коли буде визнана УПЦ Київського Патрірхату”. Чи Вселенський Патріарх знає про ці плани? В Пунктах Згоди нічого про вихід з під омофору не сказано. Нащо ж ви замилюєте нам очі!

Будьте ласкаві, поясніть читачам “Свободи” як відбуватиметься вихід з під омофору і юриздикції Вселенського Патріархату. Згідно з вашою логікою, митрополит Константин мусить заявити а пресі про свій відхід з юриздикції Вселенської Патріархії і, тоді він не буде покараний як її архієрей. Одне лише може не сподобатись Вселенському Патріархові, а саме, що прийшли до нього тишком-нишком а відходять гучно з заявою в пресі. Звичайно, його цей розголос не дуже розвеселить, але він напевно не накладе анафему на митрополита Константина як це зробила Московська Патріархія з Філаретом. Бачите, Росія боялася цілковито втратити духовний контроль над Україною, а що втратить Вселенська Патріархія коли ви від неї відійдете? Втратить пару розсварених між собою архиреїв та залякані парафії і духовенство – парафії втратою майна, а священики втратою парафій і пенсій.

Припустімо що неймовірне станеться і ви вийдете з під юриздикції Вселенського Патріархату. А що як Україна не захоче пийняти вас, новітніх яничар, і відповість вам словами Т. Шевченка: “Ох, як би то сталось, щоб ви не вертались, щоб і здихали, де ви поросли!” Що тоді ? Для всіх інших це була б велика проблема, але не для вас. Вам буде дуже легко переповзти від Другого до Третього Риму. Москва з радістю прийме всіх блудних синів у свої обійми.

Ви, докторе, чомусь не глянули на сусідню 73-тю ст. Протоколу, де митрополит Константин каже: “УПЦ в США залишилась і надалі існувати як самостійна УПЦерква”. Обидві цитати – одна на 72-ій ст. А друга на 73-ій, є ввічливо кажучи, брехнею.

Якщо УПЦ в США не є адміністративно підпорядковане Істанбулу, то чому ж Бавнд Бруцьким владикам не тільки були надані титули неіснуючих міст в Туреччені, а також від них були відібрані титули незалежної УПЦеркви в США? Ви прекрасно знаєте відповідь! Вживаючи ваші слова: “Як може в тій самій Церкві перебувати на столичній катедрі два єпископи з тим самим титулом...?” І дійсно, як в столиці Вашінгтоні могли бути в той самий час, в тій самій Церкві, два єпископи, Мелітон і Антоній? То ж “старший брат” грек залишився Вашінгтонським єпископом, а наш “самостійний” зрікся цього титулу.

На 65-ій ст. Протоколу подано слідуюче: “В. Гречнів говорить про ‘зраду Україні’ та називає ієрархів зрадниками”. Так, я говорив це тоді і повторюю знов, цей раз вам особиство, докторе Криволапе, ієрархи з Бавнд Бруку зрадили Патріарха Мстислава, зрадили наших батьків, зрадили нас! Заборона духовенству з США молитися з священиками в Україні, хіба що вони Московського Патріархату, є зрада Україні. Отже не треба повертатись до 1915 року щоб якось оправдати теперішній злочин Бавнд Бруцького єпископату.

Прошу надрукувати мою відповідь на статтю д-ра Криволапа “Лист який вимагає відповіді”.

Дуже дивно, що д-р Криволап відповідає професору І. Самійленку не у “Свободі”, де була надрукована стаття професора, а в вашій публікації. Д-р Криволап пише “В ім’я правди, дозволю спростувати читачам “Свободи”...”. Невже ж він не знає, що дуже мало читачів “Свободи” читають “Українське Православне Слово”? Мене дивує, чому він не подав свою відповідь до “Свободи”?

Я ж хочу зробити так, як повинно бути. Стаття д-ра Криволапа надрукована в “Українському Православному Слові” – відповідь на неї подаю до “Українського Православного Слова”.

A Joyous Occasion at St. Michael’s, Uniondale, Long Island, NY

On Sunday November 23, 2002 St. Michael’s was overfilled to capacity. All came to greet and participate in the Divine Liturgy celebrated by His Eminence Archbishop Stepan of Borispil, Vicary Bishop of UOC-KP for USA and Canada and assisted by Pastor Jaroslav Dymansky.

The following banquet was packed. Present at the banquet were members and representatives of many local parishes including: Mr. A. Falko of Holy Trinity UOC, Bridgeport, Conn., Mr. Salenko and Mr. Fedoriv of St. Volodymyr Cathedral, NYC, Mr. Ihor Sawon, St. Andrew’s Brotherhood, St. Andrew’s Memorial Church, So. Bound Brook, NJ, Mrs. Konyk, Sisterhood of St. Andrew’s Memorial Church, So. Bound Brook, NJ, representatives of Holy Ascension Church, Clifton, NJ and Holy Trinity Cathedral, NYC as well as local Ukrainian Catholic parishes.

On the occasion of the Feast Day of St. Michael’s, monetary gift contributions were extended to St. Michael’s Parish Board President Mr. Vitalij Hrechniv, by Mr. Salenko, President of Ukrainian Federal Credit Union, Mr. A. Falko, Parish Board President of Holy Trinity UOC, Bridgeport, Conn. and by a representative of the local branch of Ukrainian “Samopomich” Credit Union.

A feeling of joy, unity and closeness was expressed by many of the participants. Joy that they finally have a Bishop, a spiritual leader of UOC-KP in USA and Canada and unity and closeness to their Mother Church in Ukraine, the Kyivan Patriarchate.

Patriarch Filaret to Visit St. Michael's Parish.

On Sunday September 24, 2000, on the occasion of the 2000^th Anniversary of Christianity, His Holiness, Filaret, Patriarch of Kiev and all Rus-Ukraine will visit St. Michael's Parish, Uniondale, NY. At 10:00am a Divine Liturgy will be celebrated by His Holiness, Patriarch Filaret, and assisted by Rev. Kinzeravij-Pastuchiv. A banquet honoring His Holiness will follow at the Church Hall.

The Parish Board welcomes the Ukrainian community to participate in this joyous occasion in welcoming Patriarch Filaret to our Parish and our community.

Висловлюєм Вам уклінну вдячність за княжий дар ($1610.00) "на оборону Uniondale and Clifton, NJ". При нагоді - кілька слів про генезу та значення цього поширеного тепер у нашій рідній Церкві скандалу, що явно направлений на ліквідацію всього українського.

Якщо б ішло тільки про Юніондейл, то нам совісно було приймати якубудь допомогу чи підтримку. Тут справа про сутність, української церковності, хоч і почалося все від Юніондейлу. Але робилося воно так примітивно, від провокації, брехні та злочину, що й скінчилося в нас одиноким переслуханням у Верховному суді. За громадою-церквою була правда, чесність, дух церковності, і особа Архипресвітера Сергія Кіндзерявого-Пастухова, проти якого й прорвався цей напад від "владик". Акція почалася ще перед "Собором" 1998 за його критичне наставлення до незаконної, протиканонічної, таємної діяльності "владик" на розвал і ліквідацію української церковності. І замість конфронтації, пішли: заборони, суд Кліфтону, "зняття сану", поліція, перешкоди молитись і судовий розгляд.

Сказане вище стоїть перед українською церквою в Америці й Канаді як модель на завтра. "Владики" організацію збережуть, може й назву до часу; ми ж, православні українці, будемо, в кращому випадку, тільки терпимими, якщо не "виключеними" (що вже в натяках почалося).

В обличчі сказано Ваш ідейний дар стає не стільки збіркою "на оборону", скільки свідоцтвом віри, праведності, патріотизму та любові, за що від нас Вам найглибша пошана.

З любов'ю і вдячністю до Вас, - Братія у Христі Господеві, Спасителю нашому.

The following letter was sent to the President of the Consistory, UOC-USA.

To: Archbishop Antony of Ieropolis, President of the Consistory , UOC-USA

We are bringing to your attention that two checks from our parish, that you received, dated December 5 and December 12, 1999 in the amount of $4,440.00 signed by Mr. Andre Airich were issued illegally, and to be more correct, were stolen.

The Superior Court of New York confirmed that Mr. Airich, whom you blessed and supported in his illegal actions, from December 5, 1999 is not the President of the Parish Board but a self-appointed commoner. The monies covering those checks were stolen from the meager treasury of our parish.

This affair is a perfect example of your efforts in destroying our dearest Ukrainian Orthodox Church.

These monies, in addition to other harm done to our parish, initiated by you and your servers, will enter the annals of our Church history as an example of you ruining Christ's Ukrainian Orthodox Church.

We demand the immediate return of these monies to our parish.

On February 6, 2000 the Parish Board of St. Michael's Parish in Uniondale, Long Island, New York issued the following statement:

Informational announcement to the Parishioners of St. Michael's

For bringing material and moral harm to our Parish specifically:

Disgraceful act of summoning police to St. Michael's Parish and embarrassing the parishioners on December 12, 1999
Attempts not to permit access to St. Michael's by locking the gate and using the police to intimidate and frighten the parishioners on December 12, 1999.
Attempt to seize the church sanctuary by bringing in an unknown priest on December 12, 1999.
Changing the door locks in order to prevent the Parish Board from utilizing the church offices on December 10, 1999.
Offending and frightening our parish pastor in a letter "relieving him of his duties" on December 9. 1999.
Criminal act of representing themselves to the local police as the "Parish Board" of St. Michael's on December 9, 1999.
Complete disdain for the parishioners of St. Michael's, when in their name, the parish pastor was prevented by court order access to the church property on December 28, 1999.
Pain and disgrace to our parish pastor and all the parishioners when he had to appear in court on January 21, 2000.
Preventing our parishioners to conduct services in their own church during the holy days of Jan 16, 19, 23 and 30, 2000.
Frightening and intimidating our parishioners with threats of arrest if they attempt to enter the church premises on January 30, 2000.
Summoning of police for the purpose of arresting parishioners on January 30, 2000.
The unauthorized transfer of parish funds in the amount of $4,440.00 on December 5 and December 12, 1999.
Subjecting the Parish to high financial expenditures during the court proceedings.

The Parish Board, with the approval of the parish priest, and in accordance with par. No. 12 of St. Michael's Church Constitution, has taken the following action:

Expulsion from St. Michael's Parish the self-appointed "Parish Board" the following members: M. Svenchuk, B. Segneja, M. Datskov, R. Samotskov, V. Lesnjak, R. Lesnjak.
Demand reimbursements for the moral and material harm brought to our Parish.
Notify Archbishop Antony that the transfer of funds that he received in the name of our parish was done illegally.

BREAKING NEWS

at St. Michael's Parish, Uniondale, Long Island, New York

On February 2, 2000 in Supreme Court of the State of New York, County of Nassau, Judge DiNoto handed down his decision on the Temporary Restraining Order (TRO), obtained by Mr. Andre Airich, (self-appointed President of the Parish Board) with full support of the Consistory and Antony, Bishop of Ieropolis, against Rev. Kinzeravij-Pastuchiv. His decision was:

Rev. Kinzeravij-Pastuchiv is a fully ordained priest of UOC.
Mr. Andre Airich was legally removed from office on December 5, 1999, as President of the Parish Board of St. Michael's Parish.
That Mr. Ivan Sarancha, on January 23, 2000, was fully and legally elected President of the Parish Board of St. Michael's Parish.
The Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) is removed from Rev. Kinzeravij-Pastuchiv.

This is a VICTORY for parish rights not only at St. Michael's Parish, Uniondale, New York but for all parishes in the USA.

2го Лютого, 2000 року Найвищий Суд Штату Ню Йорк, Суддя ДіНото подав своє рішення відносно до Судового НаказуТимчасового Притримання служіння от. Кіндзерявий-Пастухів в храмі Св. Михаїла. Цей Судовий Наказ був приложений на от. Пастухів на петицію п. Андрея Айрич (само визнаний Голова Парафіяльної Управи) з повною підтримкою Консисторії і Ієропільського Владики Антонія. Рішення Судді ДіНото було:

1)От. Кіндзерявий-Пастухів є повноважний свяшченник УПЦ.

2)п. Андрей Айрич був легально знятий з посади Голови Парафіяльної Управи Св. Михаїла 5го Грудня 1999.

3)Суд визнає п. Івана Саранча як Голова Парафіяльної Управи який був легально вибраний Загальними Зборами парафії Св. Михаїла.

4)Судовий Наказ Припинення Служіння от. Пастухів відкликаний.

Це є велика ПЕРЕМОГА в боротьбі за парафіяльні права не тільки в парафії Св. Михаїла а для всих парафій УПЦ в США .

LATEST NEWS FROM ST. MICHAEL'S PARISH, UNIONDALE

As reported by one of the parishioners, on January 23, St. Michael's Parish held it's regularly scheduled annual parish meeting. St. Michael's renegade president Mr. Andre Airich, who was removed from office on December 5, 1999 by a specially called meeting of the Parish, and who at the encouragement and intervention of Archbishop Antony, obtained a TRO (Temporary Restraining Order) against Rev. Kinzeravij-Pastuchiv prohibiting him from entering the church grounds. Due to the fact that the legitimate Church Board was not able to get the TRO lifted in time for the Parish Meeting, Rev. Kinzeravij was not in attendance at the meeting. Due to this restraining order the parishioners again were deprived of Liturgical Church Services.

The general Parish meeting was a triumph of reason and loyalty over intimidation and treason.

The results of the January 23 meeting was as follows:

The annual meeting did not approve "absolutoriu" (vote of confidence) to the previous, Archbishop Antony's supported "board" by an overwhelming margin.
A new President and Board was elected. This Board is squarely and firmly behind "Sobornopravnist" and Autocephally.
The following resolutions were past:

Last years letter to Antony, Bishop of Iriopolis, expressing the temper of the Parish in regard to the abandonment of our church by our former prelates, was unanimously reconfirmed as being authentic and continually valid.
No one in the parish nor did the Parish Board ever authorize the removal of Rev. Kinzeravij as pastor of St. Michael's Parish. Passed unanimously.
No one at the Parish authorized the request for the TRO (Temporary Restraining Order) against Rev. Kinzeravij. Passed unanimously.
Continuation of Rev. Kinzeravij's Pastorship of St. Michael's Parish. Passed unanimously.

A motion revoking the membership of the renegade, former president of the parish, Mr. Andre Airich, passed with approximately 84% approval.

By the above results it is obvious that another Parish of the UOC-USA was re-awakened to the dangers faced by all parishes to their parish property rights and independence.

On January 2, 2000 the following letter was sent to Archbishop Antony from St. Michael's Parish, Uniondale, Long Island, New York.

To Antony, Archbishop of Ierapolis

Your Grace,

In your letter of December 15, 1999, addressed to former President of the Parish Board, Mr. Andre Airich, you state that you continue to recognize him as the President of our Parish Board. Is it possible that Mr. Airich failed to inform you that on December 5, 1999, at a Special General Parishioners Meeting, Mr. Airich was removed from position as President of Parish Board by a two-thirds (2/3) majority of the vote? But it's obvious that you knew about it, since you mailed the letter to the home address of Mr. Airich and not to the Parish.

Our Parish is a Member Corporation, incorporated in the State of New York. The President and Board Members are elected or removed (through the electoral process) by its members. You cannot recognize or not recognize anyone, especially, in view of the fact that our Parish does not recognize you as its Spiritual Leader. Our Parish was an integral part of the Kyivan Patriarchate when it was headed by His Holiness Mstyslaw I, and it remains as such. It is you who have left our Ukrainian Autocephalic Orthodox Church. Maybe in the Church which you have joined, you will have the power to appoint or dismiss Parish Boards, meet out justice to priests and intimidate parishioners, but in our Independent Sobornopravna Ukrainian Orthodox Church, such behavior is inadmissible.

We pray that Almighty God forgives you your trespasses, known and unknown.

В неділю, 12го Грудня, з повною згодою Консисторії, мала група парафіян (13 осіб) захопили, з допомогою поліції, Церкву Св. Михаїла в Юніондейл, Ню Йорк.

В 1997 році, під Москвою в місті Ногінськ, москалі з допомогою поліції захопили Український храм Святої Тройці, жорстоко побили Владику Адріана і священників і кинули їх за грати.

В неділю 12го Грудня, парафіяни Св. Михаїла почали приходити до церкви на Службу Божу. Без їх відомости, мала група (13) осіб вибрали "нову церковну управу", прибули до храму годину раніше з о. Міронком який почав приготовлятись до Служби. В'їзд до паркувальної площі (стоянка для авт) був замкнений, була закликана поліція на охрану. Розгублені парафіяни розпитувались в поліції хто і чого поліція була викликана. Поліція показала документи затверженим Владикою Антонієм який звільняє о. Кінзерявого-Пастухів і настоновляє о. Міронка як настоятеля.

Склад "нової управи" очолював бувший голова легальної церковної управи який був звільнений загальними парафіяльними зборами. "Нова Управа" офіційно повідомила поліцію що деякі незадоволені парафіяни можуть учинити проблеми і щоб поліція вислала охорону. "Нова Управа" листово повідомила поліцію що їхня акція і легальність затвержена Консисторію і це можна перевірити через Консисторію подаючи телефон і адресу.

В храмі створився ХАОС, ТРИВОГА і ПЛАЧ. Ще більш прибуло парафіян і криза підвищилась. Парафіяни перестрашились як появилось ще більше поліції в храмі. Багато почало турбуватись де є о. Кіндзерявий? Приготовка до цьої акції була зазделегіть бо "нова управа" навіть привела нового дирегента хору.

Вірні парафіяни не відступались і о. Міронко побачивши що парафіяни так легко нездаються рішив відїхати. О. Кіндзерявий прибув, висловуючи ласкаві слова і старавсь заспокоїти парафіян що буде служити парафії по їхній згоді. О. Кіндзерявий підтвердив парафіян в їхній боротбі за парафіяльні права і Сoборноправність.

St. Michael's Parish, Uniondale

During the week of December 29, 1999, Mr. Andre Airich, President and Members of the Parish Board which is "recognized and supported" by Archbishop Antony has filed a Temporary Restraining Court Order against Rev. Kinzeravij-Pastuchiv, Pastor of St. Michael's Parish. This restraining order prohibits Rev. Kinzeravij from entering the premise of St. Michael's and performing liturgical services at St. Michael's. The parishioners were deprived of liturgical services on Sunday January 2, Christmas January 7, January 9 and January 16 as well as services on Vodochreshcha (Blessing of the Waters) on January 19.

Mr. Andre Airich sworn out the following Affidavit against Rev. Serhij K. Pastukhiv

1^st. That I am the duly elected President of St. Michae's UOC Parish Board in Uniondale, NY

2^nd. That St. Michae's is a member of Consistory of the UOC of the USA.

3^rd. That on February 12, 1999 the Rev. Serhij K. Pastukhiv of St. Michael's was duly suspended from the ranks of clergy of the UOC of the US. Attached please find letter from the Consistory of the UOC of the USA ordering same.

4^th. That Rev. Pastukhiv was released from his pastoral duties on December 9, 1999 by the Parish Board. See attached letter made a part hereof.

5^th. That Rev. Pastukhiv has refused to leave the church and has surrounded himself with other members who are attempting to take over the church.

6^th. That the Nassau County Police were called but refused to become involved in church matters.

7^th. That the duly elected parish members have been denied the right to carry on a service.

8^th. That the Orthodox holidays are approaching and if the Rev. Pastkhiv is not removed or restrained from carrying on a service, the duly elected Parish members will not be able to conduct services and the holiday would have passed.

9^th. That no other provisional remedy pursuant to CPLR 60001 has been secured or sought in this action and no prior motion has been made for the same or similar relief.

Wherefore, deponent respectfully requests that a preliminary restraining order be granted and that a preliminary injunction enjoining and restraining the defendant from entering the church and carrying on a service pending a determination of the court.

Sunday, December 12, 1999 - Washington DC, faithful parishioners greet each other joyfully at the steps of the Cathedral of St. Andrew's Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC-USA) in celebration of their Patron Saints Day.

Sunday, December 12, 1999 - Uniondale, NY, At the same time, a few hundred miles north, in Uniondale, NY, faithful parishioners began arriving at St. Michael's Ukrainian Orthodox Church only to be greeted by a locked gate, squad cars and police standing guard.

In Washington DC, hierarchs Metropolitan Constantine and Archbishop Antony proclaim the virtues of Christian love, brotherhood and harmony.

In Uniondale, NY , Metropolitan Constantine and Archbishop Antony, through their "representatives", display their new Phanar style hard-fisted aggression. By deceiving their local police, Antony's "collaborators" forcibly attempt to take a parish, which had the temerity to disagree with him.

In Washington DC, the unsuspecting faithful listen and want to believe the hierarchs promises.

In Uniondale,NY, the unsuspecting faithful listen to the police and can't believe what they are hearing.

In Washington DC, a parish rejoiced in celebration with Archbishop Antony.

In Uniondale, NY, a Holy Liturgy was trampled on the order of Archbishop Antony.

WHAT IS GOING ON?!

St. Michael's Ukrainian Orthodox Church, with their devoted pastor Serhij Kinzeravij-Pastuchiw have long been an outspoken protectors of all our long held rights. They dared question the actions and behavior of the hierarchs. Rev. Pastuchiw was one of the few clergy who would not be silenced by threats. However, the Phanar hierarchs are proving that they will stop at nothing, extinguishing the rights and traditions our founding forefathers fought so hard to pass down to us.

This Sunday, December 12, 1999. Parishioners of St. Michael's began arriving at the Church for divine liturgy. An hour earlier, unbeknownst to the Parish Board or the pastor, 13 parishioners arrived with Rev. Mironko and he began preparing the Eucharist.

The parking lot gate was locked and a police guard was stationed at the front of the Church. Confused parishioners and Board members questioned the police as to why they are patrolling the premises. The patrolmen shows them a letter, addressed to the police department and signed by individuals claiming they are acting on behalf of the Parish Board, (but who in reality are NOT), informing them that as of today, Rev. Pastuchiw has been terminated by the "Parish Board".

The parishioners were stunned. The duly elected Parish Board knew NOTHING of this action!

A letter from Archbishop Antony was attached confirming the dismissal of Rev. Pastuchiw because of "his defiance". The letter went on, informing the "Parish Board" that by their act today, they regain their status as members in good standing with the Consistory. Archbishop Antony took the liberty to appoint Rev. Mironko to serve, until a permanent pastor was appointed. Another attached letter from this "alleged board", "officially" relieved Rev. Pastuchiw of his position as the parish priest and threatened him with "action from the Nassau County authorities" if he dares to defy the order.

Even more appalling was that two of the fraudulent signers, supposedly "representing" the Board had NEVER been elected to any post. One signer professed to be the PR spokesperson for the parish board, a position that the parish never had. The other signer, was the former board member who had been relieved of his duties as President by a general Meeting of the Parish. In their letter to the police, this fraudulent "Parish Board" expressed their concern that a small minority of disgruntled parishioners may cause problems and that a police contingent would be appreciated. The letter goes on to say that the validity of this board and their right to take such action can be verified by contacting the Consistory. Address and phone numbers were included.

This was an exhibit of arrogant fraud, concocted by Archbishop Antony.

Appalled, the legitimate Members of the Board and other parishioners confronted Rev. Mironko. Rev. Mironko replied that he was called here by the parish board and Archbishop Antony.

More parishioners arrived and demanded to know the whereabouts of their pastor. The crisis heightened as additional squad cars of police arrived and entered the Church. The elderly faithful became even more frightened by the appearance of more uniformed police entering their place of worship, their sanctuary. These survivors of the Communist terror well remember the police raids of the 1930's. How could this be happening in this, their safe haven of the USA?

Parishioners were shocked …………Crying, chaos and commotion reigned.

In another exhibit of "brotherly" love, Archbishop Antony's "representatives", a small minority of 13, also brought a replacement for the longtime parish choir director, who stood crying in disbelief of what was taking place before her eyes.

How could the hierarchs be party to such fraud and manipulation?

The total disregard and ignoring of the bona-fide Parish Board is an exhibit of "sobornopravnist" Antony-style.

In 1982, Joseph Kolarchik, then editor of the UOL Bulletin wrote "Spiritual leaders should apply their energies in providing spiritual and religious inspiration and knowledge and let the everyday workings of the church to those elected to administer it"…. Those words are just as relevant today as they were then.

WHERE ARE OUR PARISH RIGHTS?!

As such, the parishioners of St. Michael's stood their ground and it became obvious to the police that there was more to this then meets the eye. Rev. Mironko also realized that the parishioners would not succumb so easily and he decided to leave.

Rev. Pastuchiw finally returned to his waiting flock. He spoke words of encouragement and promised to serve them as long as they so desired. He promised to be back next week for services and encouraged his parishioners to stand firm in the protection of their parish rights and sobornopravnist.
