The chancellery of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church – Kyivan Patriarchate recently became aware that on January 30, 2002 three individuals of non-Ukrainian decent (Kohl, Robertson and Nichol) registered in the state of Florida (USA) an organization under the name of “Ukrainian Orthodox Church Kyivan Patriarchate Inc.” with unknown objectives.

 

We are advising all interested parties that this organization did not and does not have anything in common with our Church in Ukraine or (our Church beyond Ukrainian boarders) in the diaspora.

EASTER MESSAGE FROM THE MOST REVEREND STEPHEN BILAK,

BISHOP OF BORISPIL,

UKRAINIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH, KYIVAN PATRIARCHATE

IN THE

UNITED STATES AND CANADA

 

PROOF OF OUR LORD'S RESURRECTION

 

When Christ rose from the dead, St. Matthew says, “some of the guards quite unexpectedly turned up in the city and reported to the chief priests what had taken place. The latter at once arranged a meeting with the elders, and after holding a consultation, gave the soldiers a considerable sum of money with these instructions: This is what you must give out; His disciples came by night and stole the body while we were asleep. And in case this is reported at the governor's (Pilate's) headquarters, we will satisfy him and see that you have nothing to worry about. "

 

"They accepted the bribe and did as they had been directed. Accordingly, this version of the story of Our Lord's Resurrection was circulated in Jewish communities and is current to this day." (St. Matthew 28, 11-15)

 

The resurrection of Christ is the most striking sign of the incarnate God's reality, the greatest miracle of nature and the most eminent proof of the existence of the supernatural.  It is the greatest and most significant turning point of history. An old world, an old concept of life ended, and a whole new way of life, a new vision of reality began.

 

The resurrection of Jesus Christ is indeed the cornerstone of our FAITH and HOPE, a true "sign” of history. The Christian faith stands and falls with the resurrection: "If Christ has not been raised then our preaching is useless...and you are still in your sins" (1 Cor. 15: 14-17). Without the resurrection, St. Paul goes on to say, the apostles were liars and all those who believed them were miserably deceived, since “if our hope in Christ has been for this life only, we are the most unfortunate of all people." ( 1 Cor. 15:19)

 

 

The power of the resurrection has not diminished since the first Easter morning. Twenty centuries have deprived it of none of its power. This force inherent in the resurrection nourished and still nourishes the faith of confessors and martyrs, furnished hope to those who suffer and demands love toward enemies even in this pragmatic world. The empty grave of Christ is the wellspring of our own resurrection. The resurrection remains triumphant and will always prove such until Christ's enemies vanish ''as smoke vanisheth, " and melt away "as wax melteth before fire.  CHRIST IS RISEN - this is the great message of Easter. It implies that life is stronger than death, that spirit conquers matter, that love overpowers hatred.

 

CHRIST IS RISEN! This is the most joyful news. It changes the course of history, makes our lives meaningful and dispels darkness and shadows. The fact that Christ has risen gave courage to the faithful and martyrs, hope to the ailing and dying, perseverance to the afflicted and the forgotten. Easter annihilates doubt and skepticism filling the soul with valor, defiance and heroism

 

 

Easter is the feast of resurrection, the feast of glorified life, celebrating the fact that Christ invigorated out life and raised it to the plane of immortality.

 

The resurrection of Christ teaches us how to live. Often we realize how limited is our knowledge concerning the art of living. Man can languish, waste the values of life. He can weaken and break up life in himself and in his posterity. Man is unable to create a culture, which would produce the know-how of life. Such culture is fostered and nurtured in us by the resurrection. Such culture is in the world of God's hands. "It can be acquired by a life intimately linked with God, which is in complete harmony with His will. What spring is to nature, the Resurrection is to our own soul; the beginning of a new and full life.

 

As we rejoice in this commemoration of the Resurrection of Our Divine Lord, let us say: "Brethren! And to those who hate us, let us forgive all things because of the Resurrection."

 

May the risen Christ bless you all and resurrect all your dreams and desires in the expected future and grant you all a blessed and joyous Easter.

ХРИСТОС ВОСКРЕС!

 

З-посерад свят УПЦеркви, яким згадується і вшановується найвизначніші події відкуплення роду людського Спасителем, найбільш радісним святом є ХРИСТОВЕ ВОСКРЕСІННЯ.

 

Це свято, що є завершенням усієї діяльности Спасителя на землі, яскраво виявляє усю велич і Божесвенну Силу Ісуса Христа, як єдиного Переможця над смертю і неправдою. Це свято також непохтним потвердженням найбільшої правди святої віри, що розп’ятий на хресті людьми і за людей Єдинородний Син Божий – Ісус Христос, Божественною силою своєю і усіх віруючих у нього “Воскресить в останній день.”

 

Впевненість в перемозі життя над смертю, правди над неправдою – впевненість у загальне воскресіння в перемозі спочилих, наповнюють серця віруючих християн надземною радістю в день Христового Воскресіння.

 

У Великодньому Слові святий Іоан Золотоустий каже: “Нехай ніхто не лякається смерти, бо смерть Спасителя нас визволила. Переміг її той, кого тримала вона. Полонив пекло той, хто зійшов до нього....Смерте, де твоє жало? Де перемога твоя, пекло? Христос Воскрес і в гробі ні одного мерця, бо повсталий із мертвих Христос став первістком воскресіння мертвих!”

 

Христос Воістину Воскрес і, по словах Ап. Павла,  - “Воскресши з мертвих, вже не вмирає, смерть вже не має влади над ним” (Рим. 6, 9). Христос Воскрес і прийняв владу воскресити усіх, що померли в Адамі; Христос Воскрес і має владу воскресити в дусі усіх, що звертаються до нього з вірою; Христос Воскрес і тим виявив свою Божесвенну силу людям, що і вони можуть бути там, де Він є – в Царстві Небеснім (Іоан 12, 26).

 

В житті українського народу Великдень був завжди днем особливо святим,  дорогим, любим і правді сповненим великої духовної радості. Віруючі в Христа в невимовній любові сьогодні похвальними церковними піснеспівами прославляють Христа-Життядавця у Світлий День св. Паски: “Паска, Господя Паска! Бо від смерти до життя привів Христос нас” – своїм Воскресінням.

 

В день Воскресіння Христового не тільки всяке горе менше відчувалося, але і ворожнеча між людьми послаблювалась, життєві турботи віддалювались, бо у цей святковий день український народ став сильніший у вірі, скріплювавсь також духовно для дальшого життя і намагання за правду.

 

Навіть недужі забували про свої терпіння, чекаючи Великодня, а перебуваючі на смертельному ліжку, зі сльозами вдячної радості сприймали від своїх ближніх вічно нову вістку про Христове Воскресіння, що наповнювала їх надією безсмертности і впевності у вічне позагробове життя.

 

Нехай празник Святої Паски зміцнить у Вас віру наших батьків, і так зміцнить перемогою життя над смертю, добра над злом, надхненн Божественною любов’ю, з радістю “один одного обнімемо, назовімо братами й тих, що ненавидять нас, простімо задля Воскресіння”! – І так заспіваймо: “Христос воскрес із мертвих, смертю смерть подолав і тим, що у гробах, життя дарував”.

 

І доки земля і світ існуватимуть, доти в українському народові існуватиме радість Христового Воскресіння і цієї св. Радості вже ніхто і ніколи у нього не відніме.

 

Закликаю на Вас Боже Благословення!

Announcement

 

Headquarters of Vicary of UOC-KP in USA and Canada to be relocated to the Chicago area.

 

Planed visit of Patriarch Filaret in June 2002

 

In a recent correspondence to Rev. Fr. Jaroslaw Dumanskyj, Pastor of St. Michael’s Parish in Uniondale, L.I., and to Vitaly Grechniv, President of the Parish Board,  Patriarch Filaret announced plans for Bishop Stepan to relocate his residency from Cooper City, Florida to the Chicago area. This move will provide Archbishop Stepan with the needed day-to-day administrative support and assistance as well as both Ukrainian and English secretarial services. The move to the Chicago area will take place late spring/early summer as soon as a suitable residence is located for Bishop Stepan.

 

In his correspondence, Patriarch Filaret specifically made an appeal to all clergy and all parish boards of UOC-KP in USA and Canada to make all efforts in assisting Vicary Bishop Stepan and his as yet to be appointed staff in Chicago in all administrative duties.

 

At the request of Patriarch Filaret all information, concerning the activities and daily life of Vicary parishes of UOC-KP in USA and Canada as well as the Stavropigian Parish of Bishop Oleksander, is to be forwarded to Rev. Fr. Victor Poliarny, St. Nicholas Cathedral, Cooper City, Florida for inclusion in the UOC-KP Informational Bulletin. Patriarch Filaret is in complete agreement with the context of the Informational Bulletin but wishes to see more information published concerning the activities of Vicary parishes in USA and Canada as well as activities, travels and pastoral services of Vicary Bishop Stepan.

 

At the end of June 2003 Patriarch Filaret will visit Holy Trinity UOC-KP parish in Bridgeport Connecticut to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the founding of the parish. In addition on June 23, 2003 Patriarch Filaret will conduct memorial services in honor of the 10th anniversary of repose of the Patriarch Mstyslav, first Patriarch of Kyiv and All Ukraine. All parishes of UOC-KP in USA and Canada are requested to conduct memorial services in honor of the late Patriarch Mstyslav.

ХРИСТОС НАРОДИВСЯ! – СЛАВТЕ ЙОГО!

 

Цими, повними глибокого змісту й зворушливими словами, Свята Українська Православна Церква кличе нас – її дітей – достойно й велично прославити Христа в радісний день Його Народження.

 

Різдво Христове – це свято чесноти, джерело наших радостей, перемога духу над тілом; свято, через яке небо відкрилось для людей. Христос народився і довготривале ворогування знищено. Христос народився і настав мир на землі, якого давно чекали Ангели і праведні люди. Св. Ап. Павло зворушено говорить: “Христос є мир наш, що вчинив з обох одно і зруйнував поставлену посередині перегороду, скасувавши ворожнечу тілом Своїм...” (Єф. 2, 14 –15)

 

Вже понад два тисячоліття Свята Церква відзначає Народження Божої Дитини – Ісуса Христа і кожного року це свято приносить із собою ту саму благовість, завжди те саме посланництво.

 

З народженням Христа почалась нова християнська доба, що освітила темряву поганства і принесла нове життя “для тих, що жили в тіні смерти”, та на місце закону помсти проголосила закон миру й любови. Цю урочисту хвилину Христового Різдва глибоко переживаємо, коли знову чуємо цю радісну і вічно зворушливу Ангельську пісню: “ Слава на небі Богові і на землі мир, людям доброї волі”. Ця могутня пісня, що перший раз пролунала в тиху Віфлеємську Ніч, коли в убогій печері звершились Тайна Божої любови й милосердя, - це дар любови для нас – це радість не з цього світу. Це радість, що підносить, потішає і зміцнює пригноблених, струджених, прибитих тяжким горем життя. Тому в день Христового Різдва співаємо й іншу пісню радости, в яку вставляємо слова, висловлені пророком Ісаєю 700 років до народження Христового: “З нами Бог, зрозумійте народи і покоряйтеся, бо ось з нами Бог!”.

 

Могутнє те Світло з Неба, як і могутня та пісня землі розходиться доброю вісткою, радістю Святої Євангелії. Але тільки чисті серцем повністю відчують цю святочну радісь – небесного миру й спокою.
