PARISHIONERS OF ST. ANDREWS CATHEDRAL, WASHINGTON,
DC SEVERLY CRITICIZE HIERARCHS OF UOC-USA
On February 6, 2000, a group of parishioners
of St. Andrews Cathedral, Washington, DC held a meeting during which a large
number of parish members expressed their sever criticism of the leadership of
UOC-USA and the direction that this leadership is taking our Church.
One of the most critical points discussed
was the acceptance of the omophorion of Patriarch of Constantinople which
brought about the loss of our Churches independence (autocephaly). Under the
Points of Agreement signed by our hierarchs, our Church becomes a diocese of a
greek Church and the highest administrative body becomes the Patriarch and
Synod of Constantinople.
Under the omophorion, our Church shamefully
disassociated itself from eucharistic union with the clergy of Ukraine and in
turn is in communion with our eternal enemy the Russian Orthodox Church.
Together with the loss of independence our
hierarchs are on the road to ruining one of our most precious church heritage -
Sobornopravnist and are leading us toward a Synodal governing structure.
In order to stifle voices of criticism and
demands to return of our Church to independence and sobornopravnist, our
"Bound Brook" heirarchs have instituted a disgraceful lawsuit against
one of our parishes, Holy Ascension, Clifton, NJ. and an unlawful attempt to
take possession, BY
FORCE, of all church property at
St. Michael's Parish, Uniondale, NY.
Speakers at the parish meeting severely
criticized the leadership of UOC-USA especially actions by Archbishop Antony
for the harm that has been done to our Church and Ukrainians in general.
With this criticism the parishioners urged
NOT to leave the UOC-USA because "Bound Brook is ours". We built it
and paid for it. Within those hallowed ground rest thousands of the finest sons
and daughters of Ukraine who fought for a free and independent Ukraine and for
a free and independent Church. Only with return of our Church to independence
and sobornopravnist will this crisis be terminated and return our Church on the
road to well being.

бесіда відносно
всім нам
болючого
стану нашого
церковно-релігійного
життя. З 50-ти
присутьніх 16
брали голос і
всі з
обуренням
критикували
діяльність
єрархії
нашої Церкви
в США, якою вона
спричинила
великої
шкоди Церкві
і Україні.
Виступаючі
підкреслювали
неправне
підпорядкування
нашої УПЦ в
США під
омофор ворожого
до
Української
Національної
Церкви
Істамбульського
Патріарха і
сумні наслідки
такого
підпорядкування.
Одним
найболючих
наслідків
чужого омофору
є втрата
незалежности
(автокефалії)
нашої Церкви
в США -
дорогоцінности,
яка
характеризувала
нашу Церкву від
самих
початків її з
1920-их років.
Тепер наша Церква
стала лише
діяцезією
грецької Церкви,
а найвищим
урядом нашої
Церкви став
Патріарх і
Синод
Константинопольської
Церкви в
Туреччині. Це
підпорядкування
є великою
наругою
нашої
Церквою, яка
дістала благословення
від самого
Апостола
Андрія ще на
початках
християнства.
Ніякий чужий
патріарх не
може дати
нашій Церкві
більшої благодаті
від теї яку
вона вже має
від самого
Ісуса Христа
через
свойого
апостола
Андрія.
Під
чужим
омофором
наша Церква
ганебно відмовилась
від
євхарестійного
єднання з церковнослужителями
наших
національних
церков в
Україні, а на
томість
єднається з нашими
відвічним
ворогом -
російською
Церквою.
Якраз в час,
коли Україна
здобула
незалежність
і критично
потребує
допомоги в
усіх ділянках
національного
життя, а
особливо у
відродженні
своєї
національної
Церкви,
провід нашої
церкви
відвернувся
від Матірної
Церкви, яка
щойно почала
"вставати з
домовини".
Разом з
втратою
незалежности,
єрархи УПЦ в
США руйнують
ще одну
традиційну
дорогоцінність
нашої Церкви
-
Соборноправність
і випроваджують
чужий нам
синодальний
("єрархічний")
устрій
Крім
вишчезгаданих,
промовці
підкреслили
цілий ряд
інших
важливих
шкод нанесених
нашій Церкві
в США
проводом УПЦ:
Як
наслідок
угоди з чужою
і ворожою
патріархією,
єрархи УПЦ в
США
вихолощують
українкість
з нашої
Церкви та
замінюють її
світовим православ'м
що неодмінно
піддасть
нашу Церкву
під чим раз
міцніші
впливи
Російської Церкви.
Шкідливі
наслідки
такого
зближення
вже
проявилось
членством
єрархів в SCOBA, коли
вони
засудили
Америку за
бомбардування
Косово, а не
зауважують
варварські
звірства Росії
в Чечні. Така
поведінка є в
дорогу тільки
Росії.
Українцям
вона чужа.
Згідно
умови з чужим
патріархом,
вихолощування
всьго
національного
українського
з нашої
Церкви
запляновано
з недільних
шкіл.
Послідовно
цим планам,
Канцелярія
Гелігійного
Виховання
заплянувала
протидіяти
світській
діяльності
по Недільних
Школах.
Тобто,
усунути всякі
згадки про
історію
України,
національні
свята і
традиції, як
цього і
вимагає підписана
нашою
єрархією
угода з
Істамбульским
Патріархом
(див. "Пункти
Згоди", ч. 2)
Ще промовці
відмітили:
У
підсумку,
виступаючі
суворо
засудили
провід УПЦ в
США, а
особливо Арх.
Антонія, за
нанесення
невіджалуваної
шкоди нашій
Церкві в Сша
зокрема і
українству в
загальному.
Разом з цим
осудом
промовці закликали
не залишати
Баунд Бруку,
бо він є наш.
Ми всі разом
його творили
і фінансували.
Він є нашим
пантеоном де
спочивають
наші рідні та
кращі сини і
дочки нашого
народу, які
боролися за
вільну
Україну і за
свою національну
Церкву. Лише
повернення
нашій Церкві
її
Незалежність
і
Соборноправність
зупинить в
ній
сьогоднішню
кризу та поставить
її на шлях
оздоровлення.

Today we were informed that although the material presented is factual Mr. O.

Having surrendered the UOCUSA to the Patriarchate of Istanbul the hierarchs have placed their bets on World Orthodoxy in lieu of Ukrainian Orthodoxy. However, in the World Orthodoxy, despite the nominal preeminence of the Istanbul Patriarchate, the real dominant force is the Moscow Patriarchate. Thus, having embraced the World Orthodoxy, the hierarchs of UOC-USA have opened the doors into the Ukrainian Church for Moscow shenanigans. Below is an example of how ruinous the new "Bound Brook" policy may be to the Ukrainian Church and to everything Ukrainian.
Fr. S. Zenchuch, Pastor of St. Andrews Cathedral of Greater Washington, DC, publishes a weekly newsletter - "A Cathedral Bell Page" (primarily in Ukrainian) dealing with Parish matters. On Sunday December 19, 1999 in addition to the "Bell", Fr. Zenchuch distributed an English text on the life and deeds of St. Nicholas. The last quarter of the text was devoted to a survey of the cult of St. Nicholas in Russia. Why would parishioners of a Ukrainian church need to know the history of St. Nick in Russia before they were given a chance to read about St. Nick in Ukraine or in USA, only Fr. Zenchuch and his superiors know. As it turns out, this issue pales by comparison to the actual information propagated by the distributed text aimed at the younger readers (since the text is in English only). What has been disseminated is nothing less than a typical Russian-Soviet-Russian chauvinistic treatment of history in which the history of Ukraine is a Russian history, Kyiv is in Russia, Kyivan prince Askold is a Russian prince, Ukrainian churches are Russian churches, etc, etc.
Naturally, the parishioners were incensed. Fr. Zenchuch, applying the tactic of "two steps forward, one back", offered an explanation in the next issue (Dec 26) of the Bell. And what an "explanation"! It could serve as an illustrative example of wordage of a person caught red handed and who tried to overwhelm and derail an inquiry. He began by criticizing some Rumanian author for his "American Pan-Orthodoxism" to which Fr. Zenchuch felt tremendous organic opposition (vsym svoim orhanizmom vidchuv ohromnyj spotyv") and he challenges the author with a question "who needs 'mix and max' in The world orthodox peoples in the USA?" And, as to the anti-Ukrainian literature he distributed, Fr. Zenchuch simply apologizes and calls upon the readers to substitute the objectionable material with their own "knowledge and conviction". This "explanation" in Ukrainian, will not reach the young segment of the parish. And even if it did, it will not even begin to neutralize the damages done, because it makes no sense. Thus the new "Bound Brook" policy penetrates Ukrainian parishes and corrupts them from within.
